Sentry Duty

Well as you have already probably guessed by now the computer was wrong and we have had no alpaca births here as of yet. Blue has also come into her dates and so I am closely watching three females who are getting decidedly rounder but are showing no signs of delivering πŸ™

The weather has been stunning here for the last few days and looks set to continue, the alpacas can all be found sprawled out playing dead (alpaca sun bathing) ...

Crocs With Socks

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 1 Comments

Having had no rain for a few weeks and the ground being frozen solid I decided today would be a crocs with socks day as I am fed up to the back teeth of constantly wearing wellies.

I guessed that as long as the socks were thick enough my feet wouldn’t come to much harm in my crocs. I’ve had Neil telling me I’m mad and to put my wellies back on before I got frostbite in my toes. But I ...

One Relieved Alpaca Shepherdess

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 1 Comments

We had a very early start today as half the alpaca herd were due their vaccinations. The plan was to get in and out quick before it got too hot!

The last thing the alpacas need is me messing around with them in the middle of a hot summers day.

I wonder if they appreciated my thoughtfulness?

I seriously doubted it, all they see is me coming at them with a needle and I don’t think they appreciate that much whatever the time ...

Bit of a Domestic

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 1 Comments

The weather is cold but still dry so I’m definitely not complaining. The cold however is not conducive to standing around doing nothing and so has spurned me to get over my lazy day and knuckle back down to work.

One job I had to tackle pretty quickly was our next magazine advertisement, the deadline being tomorrow. Why oh why do I seem to leave everything to the last minute.

Armed with my camera I rushed around the place taking lots and ...

Hatching a Plan

Posted By On Apr 2013 | 0 Comments

Well it’s the 30th today and are we going to have an alpaca birth? Will the computer be right? So far Dora shows no signs of obliging, but the day is not done yet. Watch this space!

Neil is in the good books, and has earn’t him self lots of brownie points as he’s finally started the fronts of my stud pens.

The stud pen entrances come right of the race by the entrance to the barn. This is a very busy ...

Happy Little Bunny

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 0 Comments

It’s days like to day that make you, or maybe it’s just me :0)),want to burst out singing. It’s such a beautiful day and added to the previous week of sunshine that we’ve just had I really am feeling like a happy little bunny.

I’ve finally recovered from the weekend and should be using this good weather to start on the improvements that we’d planned for this year, but have I started?

The answer is no, I’m ambling along with out a ...

Living with the Alpacas

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 0 Comments

Another hot and sunny day on our alpaca farm, time for another blog post and guess what? Yippee! yes another cria has just arrived, this time a little lad.

Now I’ve given the game away and told you the sex, perhaps you’d like to have a guess at the colour?

There’s no prizes for guessing that one, if you know anything about my herd, he’s a beautiful shade of pure white. Are you at all surprised? πŸ™‚

His mother is Harefield Touch of ...

Matchsticks Needed

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 1 Comments

What a busy weekend, I’m so shattered I can barely keep my eyes open and it’s only 3.30 pm.

Saturday started nice and early doing all the farm chores and alpaca husbandry. That completed in double quick time Neil and I left the farm in the capable hands of our off spring, Carly, Charlie and Lauren and headed of to Oswestry to attend my cousin Jason’s wedding.

What a great day, the sun was shinning, the bride Liz looked absolutely stunning and ...

Ha! Ha!

That’s the weekend nearly sorted, jobs all done, Ha! Ha! not really, the job list is still to long for my liking and we definitely won’t ask Neil his feelings about the to do list, the air could get quite blue πŸ™‚

Unfortunately our farm visit today had to be postphoned untill next week, which was a shame, but never mind the weather looks better next week and it’s much nicer spending time out with the alpacas on a nice warm ...

Beware The Nasty Little Parasites

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 1 Comments

The weather has turned and we have been having glorious sunshine for the last couple of days. According to the forecast there’s no rain or snow due for at least the next ten days which is absolutely fantastic news. I hope I haven’t tempted fate by writing that:0))

The wet muddy fields and the sudden warm weather however can cause problems for the alpacas in the form of coccidiosis. These nasty little parasites loves warm wet muddy weather and can cause ...
