At Honeyfield, we have dedicated a lot of time and effort into the development of what is known as the elite ‘Silky’ huacaya fleece. In defining this fleece type, all silky fleeces are characterised by an incredible brightness with an intensity to rival that of the finest suri lustre.

We believe this uniqueness to be the result of an extremely low incidence of follicular scales, resulting not only in the presentation of intense brightness but also in a soft, silky handle and an added staple length.

Initially, the silky cria’s fleece is often structured into long, well defined staple locks with a lower frequency crimp.

As they age however, this structure changes and whilst retaining their handle and brightness, they progress towards a tighter crimp style, with increased density and a higher frequency crimp.

At Honeyfield we now have a well established ‘Silky’ line, with the ability to reliably produce cria with this desirable fleece style and to provide individuals offering the unique opportunity for breeders to introduce and develop this trait within their own herd.
