David Bailey I’m Not

The sun has got his hat on and what a wonderful winter’s day it is.  The girls all rushed out to their paddocks kicking their legs in the air with joy anybody would think spring was here the way they were acting.

Girls in their paddock

It is really great to watch them gambolling around, it’s really hard to explain what they actually look like unless you’ve seen them do it.  I’ll ...

Hooray Day

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 1 Comments

Hooray the rain has stopped, the wind has dropped and the forecast is the same for at least a week.  My fingers and toes are all crossed that this is true, hopefully this will give the paddocks time to drain and all the lakes that have formed on the low spots will disappear.

Thank god for the barn, the alpacas have been dry, well fed and comfortable through this stormy weather, but they are dying to get back out onto their ...

Truly Grateful

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 1 Comments

Who needs a zoomba work out when they have a barn to muck out and a radio tuned to classic gold, what a combination! Why I never thought of it before beats me.

I have just had a fantastic morning and I can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow.  I know I’m mad but it’s such fun being able to dance around singing at the top of your voice in a barn where no one can see or hear the ...

Remind Me To Shut My Big Mouth

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 0 Comments

The rain did lay off yesterday for awhile instead we had wind and boy did we get some wind.  By late afternoon we were still intact, thinking we had wind proofed the farm adequately i.e. field shelters firmly fixed down etc… I opened my big mouth to congratulate ourselves on another job well done and the roof of a chicken coop went sailing by.

Poor chickens they didn’t look impressed especially as at precisely that moment the torrential rain decided to ...

The Score, Herd 1 Donna 0

The rain is it ever going to stop; I really think we’ve had enough now.  This morning it had settled into a steady rhythm of drizzle and so I thought I’d get the girls out quick for a bit of an airing.  They could have a quick munch on the grass and I could have a blitz in the barn and get it all fresh and tidy for the inevitable downpour later.

The girls and I wandered down the race and ...

Spec Savers

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 0 Comments

You’d think, if you’ve been following my blog, that it’s my dad I’m going to talk about.  He does have an uncanny resemblance to the old sheep shearer in the spec savers advert.  The one that can’t see and badly shears his border collie by mistake along with his sheep, not so this is about the other helper, my mother.

My mother thinks Imposition is just the handsomest Alpaca there ever was, I do agree he is a very handsome chap, ...

The Beast

Today has been an exciting day.  After all the chores on the farm were done this morning, myself, Neil and our son Charlie bundled into Charlie’s little Toyota Aygo and we were off.  We had been invited to a track day at Castle Combe race track.

We arrived to find Rob from Wellground changing his wet weather tyres for dry weather tyres, forgive me if I got that wrong but I haven’t got a clue what I’m talking about and the ...

The shelves are all stocked

Today has been a day full of deliveries, First a large lorry carrying a couple of pallets of cardboard bedding,  This is for Charlie my Anglo Arab horse, he is a very sensitive chap and is allergic to hay and straw and so has a lovely deep bed of cardboard and a hay rack full of haylage.

Dowinies Classic Colours, stable name Charlie

Next came a fresh supply of flaked peas, these ...

My Happy Little Helpers

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 1 Comments

Father Christmas has his elves, I’ve got a Marlene & Tony.  These two characters are to blame for bringing me into this world, they’re my parents.  There is much debate over who is responsible for my numerous bad habits and mad cap ideas. My parents insist its Neil’s fault as I’ve been with him much longer than I was with them and you can imagine Neil’s version is quite the opposite.

A Bit of a Dabble

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 3 Comments

This year I decided to enter a few fleece shows.  As all our fleeces with the exception of Dora’s go into wool production I decided I would spare a couple from the wool bag.  That’s the easy bit, why is there always a hard bit? The hard bit for me was picking two, there were so many to choose from.  I’m afraid it came down to whose was the cleanest and the easiest to prepare.

It’s a lot easier getting it ...
