Sunbathing Alpacas

Posted By On Apr 2013 | 0 Comments

Well there’s wind and there’s wind! and at the moment all though it’s been warm and dry the washing line is definitely out of action.

There’s not a hope in hell of my puny pegs holding my smalls on the line in this weather. Out of consideration for the village, who would undoubtedly be on the receiving end of my smalls blowing around on the wind I’ve been forced, honest Neil 🙂 to bring the tumble dryer back into work.

Will he ...

Beauty Parlour

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 1 Comments

Daisy our German Shepherd went to the dog groomers today, we have to tell her she’s going swimming otherwise our other dog, Alfie, cries all the time she’s gone.

Alfie had to go swimming twice a week up until the age of two as he has hip dysplasia and although it improved his condition he absolutely hated it.  So the term going swimming works really well and we have a quite home while Daisy is away.

Daisy loves going swimming because she ...

Sad News

Posted By On Apr 2013 | 0 Comments

Yesterday on Rob’s @ Wellground’s Blog, some very sad news was published, John had lost his fight with cancer.

We were lucky enough to have met John and Lillian on a couple of occasions over the last few years and know from that, how much John will be sorely missed.

My sincere condolences Lillian if you happen to be reading this blog.

Lillian quite understandably has decided to free up some of her capital invested in alpacas and has released on to the ...

Proper Preparation

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 1 Comments

The trouble with knitting is that it leaves your mind free to wander and wander mine has been doing, even more so than usual. This normally means trouble for some one and that poor some one is almost inevitably Neil:0))

The direction these thoughts are taking are of improvements that we can make to the farm, to make bad weather conditions here better. I don’t think this will be the last bad summer and winter we will see and so I ...

Two Hoots

Posted By On Apr 2013 | 0 Comments

The first swallow has arrived, are they late this year, or does it just feel that way? They didn’t look to impressed to find the horses still using their stables and on that point I’d have to agree. I can’t remember ever stabling the horses this far into April, hopefully that situation can be rectified in the next few days.

Charlie has finally woken up and been in communication with the other students on his degree and it seems he wasn’t ...

Keeping Busy

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 0 Comments

The sun has been shining but the fields are still waterlogged as every evening we seem to have another dose of heavy rain. I know the fields are bad as yesterday we had a heron wandering around one of the paddocks, I don’t know what it was hoping to find as we might be sodden but I don’t think we’ve any fish out there just yet. :0))

The Alpacas have settled nicely in to their new routine and are quite content ...

An Update

Posted By On Apr 2013 | 0 Comments

What’s going on? Having just checked the weather forecast yet again, tomorrow at midday the temp is set to be 8 degree’s and at midnight it will be 11 degree’s. What’s that all about? Do we all need to turn nocturnal?

That’s all I need after the last few days, phew I’m glad there over! Was I stressed on Wednesday? well if I was, it was nothing compared to waking up Thursday morning and finding my son still hadn’t finished his ...

The Vet is Booked

Posted By On Jan 2013 | 0 Comments

The day draws ever nearer for Taffy,Woody and Hamilton, they are due to be castrated in a couple of weeks, It’s all booked, poor boys. It is all done very quickly and with a shot of local anaesthetic in their nether regions, they don’t feel a thing. These boys then will have a good life without ever having to worry about the females of their species.

This trio are smashing boys, lovely fleeces and great temperaments, the only reason they aren’t ...

Deja Vu

Posted By On Apr 2013 | 0 Comments

It’s a little bit of a stressful household here at the moment, not I hasten to add due to the alpacas, they are all doing fine, even with the distinct lack of grass.

Mind there’s good news on that front, with the temperature finally hitting 10 degree’s here the spring grass will soon be making an appearance. It’s about time, I started to forget what proper green paddocks looked liked.

Now the temp has risen to that magic ten degrees and we ...

It’s Such A Shame

Posted By On Jan 2013 | 0 Comments

The snow goes and the sun comes out, but the alpacas are still in the barn, it’s such a shame, Why?

The answers is because of the horrendous rain storms we’ve been having for the last few nights. The paddocks are so water logged that I’ve made the decision only to let the Alpacas out for an hour or so just while I muck out the barn.

The next few weeks with the rain that the weather men have forecast I think my best ...
