This weekend we spit tested the girls to confirm they were still pregnant. I usually don’t bother towards the end of their pregnancies because normally it’s very apparent.

However after being wintered mainly in the barn and in very close contact with me throughout, they are not the slightest bit grumpy. Which is great but left me feeling a bit concerned, especially as a good number of them were maidens.

I woke up this morning to brilliant sunshine and green fields, the snow had all been washed away by the rain through the night. Hooray!!! not for the rain but for the disappearing snow.

The alpacas couldn’t believe their eyes when I opened the barn door and they looked out at green fields, they were so shocked, they were reluctant to leave the barn at first, the big babies.

An early blog today I think as the weather forecast promises eight degrees and no wind this afternoon and I have every intention of being outside and ready just in case, I don’t want to risk missing summer 🙂

Plus it also means that while I’m busy with coffee in hand tapping away on my lap top composing my early blog, Neil gets to do the mucking out.

We’ve had alpacas in the snow, alpacas in the wind and rain and for the last few days we’ve had alpacas enjoying the sunshine. I say alpacas in the wind, rain and snow, with a little smile because my pampered herd never have to cope with that weather at all. They were tucked up nice and snug in the barn, I’m such a soft touch 🙂

We are very lucky in our area to have one of the best haylage producers around and yesterday afternoon we paid them a visit.

Its been a while since we’ve seen Oliver and so we had a good catch up on all his news and then got down to the serious business of discussing haylage and what would be the best to feed to our alpacas.

We’ve had a very busy four days here on the farm and I can’t remember what we did on any of the days specifically as they all passed in such a whirl wind of activity.

I was going to do ” we’re having a heat wave” blog today as an April Fool joke, but have decided it’s just not funny 🙁 So instead the Alpaca’s and I will  just wish you all a happy April Fool’s day and if any of you have been caught out with something funny please share!
