Just Chillin

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 1 Comments

It’s just a little bit cooler here on our alpaca farm today, about 22 degrees so they say. I don’t think it’s actually any cooler in reality, just that today there is a bit of a breeze which stops me feeling quite so scorched.

It looks like the temp is set to ramp up a notch or two for the weekend as 28 degrees is the forecast for Saturday, hot!

So girls, to those of you still hanging on to your cria, ...

Alpacas, Whose Who?

Posted By On Apr 2013 | 0 Comments

Still no sign of any alpaca impending births and I think we are going to be waiting awhile for our new arrivals as neither girl has got her milk in yet. I checked them both yesterday.

Not that I’m really surprised none of my girls ever seem to deliver early. It always seem to be towards the end of their dates and so we have a little way to go yet. Which may be isn’t such a bad thing as the ...

Today’s The Day

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 1 Comments

Today was the day the vet was booked for a visit with three of our young male alpacas, Taffy, Woody and Hamilton.

These boys as I have already explained before, are of stud quality but here at Honeyfield we want to be known for only releasing stud males that are very special and all though it breaks my heart to castrate three such beautiful boys, with pedigree’s to die for, I’m adamant that only the very best should go on to ...

Clash of the Titans

Posted By On Apr 2013 | 0 Comments

I’m so mean, but it was funny, although if I hadn’t hidden in the cabin I know I would have given in. Why?

Well last night as it was so warm and the grass has started to come through at last. I decided it was time for the alpacas to spend there first night of the year outside.

If it hadn’t been for the lack of grass they would have been out weeks ago and to be truthful most of the time ...

Rationing

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 0 Comments

The house is so quiet, my youngest child Lauren has gone up north to visit with her boyfriend this half term. How one so small, she’s only 5ft 1″, can make so much noise I don’t know, but it has to be her because she’s the only one missing :0))

Talking of missing, I’m not missing her roaring up and down the track on her motorbike and I have a whole week in which I don’t have to worry about her ...

The Waiting Game

Posted By On Apr 2013 | 0 Comments

The alpaca birthing period is upon us, Ruby has entered her delivery dates, the watching and waiting game begins 🙂

Our birthing season on paper stretches right through until mid September, but that means nothing as Alpacas, as I’ve mentioned before can’t read and will have their young only when they are good and ready.

Luckily, well I hope it was luckily and the better weather holds, we have been fortunate that our cria are a bit later arriving this year.

I’d like ...

The Power of Positive Thoughts

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 0 Comments

Well it’s been a fairly good week weather wise and the paddocks were just starting to dry out nicely. The alpacas were enjoying their days back out on the grass, glad to see the back of the barn, I should imagine.

Then the weekend starts and we have had snow, some heavy rain and have been left with constant drizzle. How much more of this weather can the paddocks  take, I don’t know, but I can guess at not much more.

I ...

Very Sad News

Posted By On Apr 2013 | 0 Comments

I’m really sorry, but there will be no blog today. We’ve received some very sad news, a dear friend’s mum has passed away and I can’t find it in me to write a happy blog, so I think it’s best that I write nothing at all.

Sorry

Be back on track soon x

Replacement Back End

Posted By On Feb 2013 | 1 Comments

Neil had a day off today and spent the morning in Birmingham picking up a replacement hatch back for our eldest daughters Micra.  Some nice person had driven into the back of her car when it was parked outside a friend’s house and drove off without leaving their insurance details, obviously an honest person, not!

A replacement back end collected and after some running around for me on the way home, Neil made it home with daylight hours still to spare.

So being ...
