Alpacas Hide & Seek

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 3 Comments

I’m real fed up now, no expectant alpaca mom’s have delivered their babies, so I’m still sporting a fetching pair of binoculars and to compound my misery I’ve also run out of Magnum’s πŸ™

Tesco’s are not delivering my shopping, which will hopefully contain my new magnum supplies, until later on this evening, what’s a girl to do? πŸ™‚

The good news is, it has cooled down a bit, maybe we will get a little rain later as the forecasters have promised.

I ...

Favouritism

MY happy little alpaca helper, aka my mother is back from her holidays and so we thought we’d have a barbecue today to celebrate her return. So sorry folks that’s set the scene for rain again today πŸ™‚

My mother on her return has promised an imminent birth, as Dora who is in fact my mother’s alpaca, unbeknownΒ to me was under strict instructions not to deliver whilst my mother was away. I’m amazed knowing Dora as I do she’s playing along, ...

Alpaca Breeding Plans

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 2 Comments

Do I have any alpaca births to report? nope! not a sign of a little nose protruding anywhere πŸ™

Lots and lots of false alarms, lots of wiggling, kicking alpaca tummies and alien butt face presentations as some alpaca breeders like to call it, but no births πŸ™

I know I’m bad, I get far too impatient, but I can’t seem to help myself, it’s just so dam exciting watching as each new cria enters the world.

The birth will always amaze me, ...

Wizard of Oz

Where’s spring gone? I’ve just checked the forecast here for today and we have snow shower’s due later, are they having a laugh? Spring is supposed to be nice warm sunshine, grass growing weather, not weather in which all that’s growing is snowmen πŸ™

The supply’s in the alpaca barn are starting to run real low, especially on the straw front. The question is do we take in a new delivery or hope that this weather passes quickly and therefore we’d ...

Paddocks full of wet alpacas, a half painted lolly pop fence, Why? That blasted rain and horrendous wind is back, please tell me this is just a blip and not that summer has been and gone. Last summer is still to fresh in my memory for me not to feel slightly concerned, ok Ill be honest I’m more than slightly concerned, I want the sun to come back please!

It’s one of my happy little helpers fault, my mother has gone ...

Tightly Packed Alpacas

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 4 Comments

It’s been four days now and still no new alpaca offspring have made an appearance. Come on girls it’s starting to feel like my binoculars are a permanent fixture on my face πŸ™

Truth be known, I’m grizzling because these binoculars are really interfering with my consumption of magnum ice creams.

I could really use another hand, one to hold my lolly, one for the binoculars and one to alter the focus and pick up all the chocolate bits that are still ...

A Busy Alpaca Farm

Posted By On Mar 2013 | 0 Comments

A bit of a late one today as we’ve had visitors from Scotland and I completely forgot about the blog. It has been a busy end to this week as we had visitors Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It’s a bit like waiting for a bus, you don’t see any for a little while and then three come all at once :

But who can blame them, who want’s to go visit an Alpaca farm in the cold and rain, and we’ve ...

More Please!

Alpaca births? nope those girls sure are hanging on to their babies this year it’s a bit like waiting for a bus, none for ages and then they all come at once πŸ™‚

I thought I’d been rather clever, by being over at the stud pens painting the lolly pop fence, I could keep a close eye on the girls without them being too aware of me watching. Well it would have been a good move if the group I was ...

Small Footed Family

Posted By On Mar 2013 | 1 Comments

At Honeyfield we take biosecurity very very seriously and take every precaution to prevent disease entering our alpaca paddocks. Not only do we operate a closes herd policy, offer no stud services and refrain from entering Halter shows. All the paddocks are fully enclosed with Tornado Badger Fencing and to enter every visitor must pass through a fam 30 foot bath.

We at the farm don’t even think about the foot bath any more, it’s become second nature to walk through ...
