Spec Savers

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 0 Comments

You’d think, if you’ve been following my blog, that it’s my dad I’m going to talk about.  He does have an uncanny resemblance to the old sheep shearer in the spec savers advert.  The one that can’t see and badly shears his border collie by mistake along with his sheep, not so this is about the other helper, my mother.

My mother thinks Imposition is just the handsomest Alpaca there ever was, I do agree he is a very handsome chap, ...

The Beast

Today has been an exciting day.  After all the chores on the farm were done this morning, myself, Neil and our son Charlie bundled into Charlie’s little Toyota Aygo and we were off.  We had been invited to a track day at Castle Combe race track.

We arrived to find Rob from Wellground changing his wet weather tyres for dry weather tyres, forgive me if I got that wrong but I haven’t got a clue what I’m talking about and the ...

Today has been a day full of deliveries, First a large lorry carrying a couple of pallets of cardboard bedding,  This is for Charlie my Anglo Arab horse, he is a very sensitive chap and is allergic to hay and straw and so has a lovely deep bed of cardboard and a hay rack full of haylage.

My Happy Little Helpers

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 1 Comments

Father Christmas has his elves, I’ve got a Marlene & Tony.  These two characters are to blame for bringing me into this world, they’re my parents.  There is much debate over who is responsible for my numerous bad habits and mad cap ideas. My parents insist its Neil’s fault as I’ve been with him much longer than I was with them and you can imagine Neil’s version is quite the opposite.

A Bit of a Dabble

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 3 Comments

This year I decided to enter a few fleece shows.  As all our fleeces with the exception of Dora’s go into wool production I decided I would spare a couple from the wool bag.  That’s the easy bit, why is there always a hard bit? The hard bit for me was picking two, there were so many to choose from.  I’m afraid it came down to whose was the cleanest and the easiest to prepare.

It’s a lot easier getting it ...

The Barn

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 1 Comments

The weather has turned for the worse and so it’s in the barn at night for the herd.  They all love coming into the barn especially Dora.  As soon as she’s had her evening feed she’s at the gate asking to come in.  When I open the paddock gate I have to move pretty sharpish to avoid the stampede, as they’re all racing to get to the hay racks first. Dora inevitably wins, she can half move for an old ...

I ain’t got no goats

Someone could have warned me! Am I going mad or was I just mad anyway :0)) All my waking hours are spent thinking about what will I write next.  I’m finding that I’m now talking to myself constantly is this the malady of bloggers.

Whilst previously poovering the fields my thoughts would turn to winning the euro millions jackpot.  Oh how I would love to put a card in the job center “Farm hand wanted to poo hoover alpaca fields”.  Thoughts ...

Pin-up Center Fold

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 1 Comments

In my last blog I mentioned every farm should have one, a special alpaca that really nobody else would ever want. I’m really happy to see others breeders out there agree, but I have a confession to make. I don’t just have one, I have two, but only two I promise.

The other is Dora’s son, Benson. To begin with his name was probably a big mistake, he was named after a partner at our alpaca Vets. Looking back I think ...

Hello World

Posted By On Nov 2012 | 12 Comments

Hello World or is that too presumptuous, it probably is, hopefully I won’t be rambling on to myself and there will be someone out there interested. I would like to introduce myself, I am Donna and if you’ve looked at the web site you will have seen we are a small family owned farm in Wiltshire concentrating on breeding elite white Alpacas. Although I have to say that a couple of very special Light Fawns have managed to creep in.

Talking ...
