Tightly Packed Alpacas

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 4 Comments

It’s been four days now and still no new alpaca offspring have made an appearance. Come on girls it’s starting to feel like my binoculars are a permanent fixture on my face 🙁

Truth be known, I’m grizzling because these binoculars are really interfering with my consumption of magnum ice creams.

I could really use another hand, one to hold my lolly, one for the binoculars and one to alter the focus and pick up all the chocolate bits that are still ...

A Busy Alpaca Farm

Posted By On Mar 2013 | 0 Comments

A bit of a late one today as we’ve had visitors from Scotland and I completely forgot about the blog. It has been a busy end to this week as we had visitors Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It’s a bit like waiting for a bus, you don’t see any for a little while and then three come all at once :

But who can blame them, who want’s to go visit an Alpaca farm in the cold and rain, and we’ve ...

More Please!

Alpaca births? nope those girls sure are hanging on to their babies this year it’s a bit like waiting for a bus, none for ages and then they all come at once 🙂

I thought I’d been rather clever, by being over at the stud pens painting the lolly pop fence, I could keep a close eye on the girls without them being too aware of me watching. Well it would have been a good move if the group I was ...

Small Footed Family

Posted By On Mar 2013 | 1 Comments

At Honeyfield we take biosecurity very very seriously and take every precaution to prevent disease entering our alpaca paddocks. Not only do we operate a closes herd policy, offer no stud services and refrain from entering Halter shows. All the paddocks are fully enclosed with Tornado Badger Fencing and to enter every visitor must pass through a fam 30 foot bath.

We at the farm don’t even think about the foot bath any more, it’s become second nature to walk through ...

Alpaca Rivalry

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 3 Comments

If you can’t get any magnum ice creams at Tesco’s in Swindon it’s probably because they are all sold out and in my freezer!

I got in there quick before they all disappeared like the paddling pools did.

Very selfish I know but I had too! I have to confess these are my latest addiction 🙂

What am I like? Last year it was ice cream snickers bars.

Why I was eating ice cream last year, for the life of me I can’t remember, ...

Twinny’s You’re Not Alpacas!

Posted By On Mar 2013 | 2 Comments

I expect you’ve all heard of the film “Babe”, which in case you haven’t, was about a piglet that wanted to be a sheep dog.  Well I can top that, I have “Naughty Twinny”, who is a chicken that wants’ to be an Alpaca.

I say I have one, it’s probably two, as the chickens I’m talking about are identical, hence they are known as the naughty twinny’s, I think they are taking it in turns at being an Alpaca.

The chickens, ...

Hello Summer!

Posted By On May 2013 | 0 Comments

Hello summer! what a gorgeous day today has been, for us humans anyway, not so good for heavy fleeced pregnant alpacas. I’ve not seen that much of the alpacas today as they’ve spent most of the day in and around their field shelters trying to find some shade. How much do you want to bet that once they are sheared and will enjoy the warm weather, the rain and nasty weather will come back 🙂

Neil’s lolly pop fence is now ...

Alpaca Fun

Posted By On Mar 2013 | 0 Comments

The weekend passes so quickly and is normally spent doing the two man jobs as Neil is home.  The days are gradually getting lighter and so soon we can squeeze some of the smaller jobs in when he comes home from work.  Did you hear him groan then?

This weekend was toe nail trimming and this takes a while, as we do the herd in one go. Dora as usual sang along at the top of her voice all the way ...

The Alpacas back on Track

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 2 Comments

The alpacas and I got a treat yesterday dinner time, courtesy of the Red Arrows who must have been doing a display or practicing, somewhere near by.

However, how stupid am I?

I was sat in the fields with the girls, camera in hand with the intention of taking some more cria shots when the Red Arrows first flew over.

Whilst my eyes were glued to the sky for the half an hour or so they were there, watching them perform their amazing ...
