It’s been a bit of a hectic weekend here on our alpaca farm, not due to the alpacas I hasten to add, no dramas on that front, but due to my youngest child Lauren coming of age.

I suddenly feel so old, it only seems like yesterday when my children were little ankle biters as my husband liked to call them and now they are all grown.

All grown but showing no inclination of leaving home, where am I going wrong? 🙁

Has spring finally arrived?, I think so! The signs are looking good, the first of the swallows arrived back in the stables at the beginning of the week.

Plus wall to wall sunshine and the fields are full of lush green grass.  All of the alpacas, after stuffing themselves on said lush green grass are spending the afternoons fast asleep in the sun. Spring is here, Happy Days!!!!

Today was a very auspicious occasion for one little male alpaca, today was the day I had decided he was to become a man.
That is all well and good I hear you say but had I checked with the said male, Honeyfield Angelo, to see if he was ready, willing and able.

No of course I hadn’t, Superior genetics and all that, of course he’d be willing, ready and able, he’s my boy 🙂

It’s all change in the alpaca paddocks, half the fields are now clear of the dreaded buttercup and were ready today for the alpacas to graze. Moving them all into these paddocks leaves us now free to spray off the paddocks they’ve just vacated, weather permitting of course.

With spring being just round the corner and all thoughts returning to the approaching birthing season, I suddenly remembered that I hadn’t yet registered last years offspring, how bad is that? Luckily it only takes a few minutes to rectify and all the cria are now officially recorded with the BAS.

Today is a very special day, it’s my dad’s 70th birthday.

The last few years have been very tough for us as a family, my father was diagnosed with a massive aneurism and had to undergo a triple A operation to save his life. The out come was good but in the process his kidneys stop functioning. I gradually getting used to seeing my alpacas naked, although I think I’m going to need at least a few more days before I can start being able to tell who’s who.

You’d think their ear tag numbers would help, but you get so used to how each and every alpaca looks, and believe me even with a predominately white herd they are all so very different, that I’ve never needed to rely on their tags to tell them apart.
