As you all can probably gather, if you’ve been following the blog of late, we’ve had an amazing birthing season this year, eight girls in a row and we’ve not quite finished yet. We have a small break of a couple of weeks and then the last three pregnant females will be due to deliver. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that they too will have girls. A clean sweep of girls, wouldn’t that be amazing.

Sunday morning started bright and hot as has been the usual of late. Only one female in this cluster was left in her birthing window and she was far too busy sunbathing to consider giving birth just yet or so she informed me.

Well yesterday was the day Blue Moon decided to present us with her cria.

That title sounds a bit ominous, but don’t worry there’s nothing wrong with our Dora, in fact at the moment she’s a very happy little alpaca.

The last dance I’m referring to occurred last year, when she had a little dalliance with one of our stud males, High Com.

We had already decided that this was to be Dora’s last mating as she’s getting on a bit now and in our opinion has earned her right to retire.

Armed with my camera ready to take pictures of our latest arrival ready for your perusal, my phone pinged, announcing the arrival of an audio message from a very special friend.

It’s time to introduce the latest cria that have recently been born. I’ve been a bit derelict in my duty this year to publish pictures of the youngsters and for a change it wasn’t my fault. I wasn’t out on the farm sunbathing and eating ice lollies, honest! 🙂
