Paddocks full of wet alpacas, a half painted lolly pop fence, Why? That blasted rain and horrendous wind is back, please tell me this is just a blip and not that summer has been and gone. Last summer is still to fresh in my memory for me not to feel slightly concerned, ok Ill be honest I’m more than slightly concerned, I want the sun to come back please!

Alpaca births? nope those girls sure are hanging on to their babies this year it’s a bit like waiting for a bus, none for ages and then they all come at once 🙂

I thought I’d been rather clever, by being over at the stud pens painting the lolly pop fence, I could keep a close eye on the girls without them being too aware of me watching. Well it would have been a good move if the group I was ...

Hello summer! what a gorgeous day today has been, for us humans anyway, not so good for heavy fleeced pregnant alpacas. I’ve not seen that much of the alpacas today as they’ve spent most of the day in and around their field shelters trying to find some shade. How much do you want to bet that once they are sheared and will enjoy the warm weather, the rain and nasty weather will come back 🙂

Neil’s lolly pop fence is now ...

The bank holiday weekend has arrived which means Neil is home on the farm for an extra day. Friday evening ended with him asking for his weekend itinerary, he’s so well trained 🙂 Top of the Alpaca to do list is worming, which is much easier when there’s two of you as it is administered via injection. Neil gets the job of holding the alpacas steady while I get left in charge of the needles.

It sounds like a nasty job but ...

Well as you have already probably guessed by now the computer was wrong and we have had no alpaca births here as of yet. Blue has also come into her dates and so I am closely watching three females who are getting decidedly rounder but are showing no signs of delivering 🙁

The weather has been stunning here for the last few days and looks set to continue, the alpacas can all be found sprawled out playing dead (alpaca sun bathing) ...
