Mice & Men

Yesterday I had lots planned, first on the list was trying to improve on the alpaca fleece shots. Some of the boys this time I thought, hoping they wouldn’t be quite so wiggly as the girls.

That job could take a while, dependent on how tolerant the boys were feeling and so for afterwards I thought mowing the doc leaves in the horses paddocks would be a great way to relieve my inevitable frustration.

To finish, a spot of painting I thought, as I’ve a ways to go on my lolly pop fence.

What’s the saying? the best laid plans of mice and men!

Just as I was about to herd the boys down, Dora went into the first stages of labour. Hooray! She was getting so large, much more and I thought she’d pop. Plus taking cria pictures is much more fun than fleece shots.

So all plans were quickly abandoned, I got myself comfy on the garden bench and waited and waited and waited!

Remember this is Dora the drama queen I’m talking about and so it shouldn’t be a surprise, she was always going to make a meal of it.

After much moaning, wandering around, having numerous snoozes and stuffing her face full of grass, she eventually, three hours later had a text book birth, delivering a bonnie little lad who we’ve named Wilson.

Mother and son are doing fine, Dora’s an old hand at this and knows exactly what she’s at. Wilson apart from a splayed ear, which I’ve taped into shape, is full of beans and was trotting round the birthing paddock by mid afternoon, much to Dora’s disgust as she felt obliged to keep up with him.

Hopefully now Dora’s delivered, the other two Blue and Ruby will finally decide it’s time for them to deliver too.

Who am I trying to kid, those lazy pair are just to hot to be bothered and spent most of yesterday just chilling.

I bet you called him WILSON because he’s an ugly bugger, I know your naming strategy, that made me laugh and laugh ๐Ÿ˜‰ Perfect…

Nothing to do with me, my mother gets to name all Dora’s offspring and he’s a cutie. What he’ll turn into is another story having Dora for a mother, lets hope Imposition his dad, has had a big influence genetically ๐Ÿ™‚
