Two First Timers

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 3 Comments

Yesterday at 10.55 am the latest addition to our alpaca herd arrived.

It came as a little bit of a shock as my girls never ever deliver early, even my experienced mothers tend to make me wait right to the end of their dates and so to have a first time mother deliver just five days into her dates was a surprise.

A very nice surprise, in fact it was a double surprise as not only was Sassy Surprise, that’s her name ...

A Very Proud Mommy

Posted By On Aug 2014 | 2 Comments

For a change, today’s blog is not about alpacas. The proud mommy I’m talking about in the title is me.

My youngest child, Lauren, a short time ago finally finished her degree in Narrative & Sequential Illustration, she is an amazing artist, aided with an absolutely incredible imagination and I’m very proud to say she passed her degree with flying colours.

As you would expect I’m a great admirer of her work and when asked a couple of years ago what I ...

Alpaca Mayhem

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 2 Comments

Another beautiful sunny day here in Wiltshire and according to the forecast it’s set to get even hotter over the weekend. Temperatures are estimated to reach 27 degree’s on Sunday and Monday.

Wow! that is hot, for the UK anyway. Don’t worry I’m not complaining, I wouldn’t dare after last summer 🙂

I am just so grateful that all my alpacas are all shorn, with that kind of heat expected  they would have been really struggling if still carrying their heavy fleeces.

As ...

Biggest Mistake!

Posted By On Aug 2014 | 0 Comments

I’ve pondered, deliberated, considered, reflected, ruminated, and yes I’ve been reading the thesaurus as well 🙂

Don’t you think ruminated is an ace word and so applicable 🙂

My dilemma is whether to release my top stud male Imposition for sale.

I’ve resorted to writing lists of all his plus verses all his negatives.

The negatives I’m not doing very well with, as the only thing that’s on it is that he’s closely related to two of my other studs, Angelo via their father ...

Imp your the Daddy!

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 2 Comments

Oh I’m so sorry but I just can’t help it, I’ve just got to share.

My skirting fairy came to call again yesterday and together we worked through some more of my fleeces 🙂

I say together but that’s not quite true, I flapped about a bit oohing and ahing at all the shinny bits and she knuckled down and did all the work.

What am I like, bloody usless I know 🙂 but I just couldn’t help it.

I haven’t really paid much ...

Thoughts from Honeyfield Alpaca Farm

Posted By On Jul 2014 | 0 Comments

As you all can probably gather, if you’ve been following the blog of late, we’ve had an amazing birthing season this year, eight girls in a row and we’ve not quite finished yet. We have a small break of a couple of weeks and then the last three pregnant females will be due to deliver. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that they too will have girls. A clean sweep of girls, wouldn’t that be amazing.
Because of our ...

How to Exercise the Elderly

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 6 Comments

Here on our alpaca farm we take the welfare of all our helpers very seriously and so when It was brought to my attention late last week that our chief happy little helper aka my mother was a subject of elder abuse a full investigation was set in motion.

First off, whose the culprit? who on the farm would terrorize my poor mother, one of the alpacas?

No way! The alpacas are all far too placid and sweet natured, even Dora is really ...

Let’s Dance

Posted By On Jul 2014 | 0 Comments

Sunday morning started bright and hot as has been the usual of late. Only one female in this cluster was left in her birthing window and she was far too busy sunbathing to consider giving birth just yet or so she informed me.
Should I risk it?
My parents having taken pity on me for not leaving the farm and the pregnant girls for the last couple of months, invited Neil & I out for a spot of lunch in ...

Hive of Activity

Posted By On Jun 2013 | 1 Comments

Today the weather has been absolutely amazing and on our little alpaca farm here in Wiltshire, we have been making the most of every last minute of it.

I took a few minutes this afternoon to wander round with my camera taking snaps of all the activity happening around the place.

Before any of you comment, yes it was a good excuse for a skive, I was hot, but I’m not complaining sunshine honest! 🙂

What is it they say “a picture is ...

Sunshine after the Rain

Posted By On Jul 2014 | 1 Comments

I have to thank Roger Clarke of Amberly Alpacas for the title of today’s blog. It was from a lovely comment he recently made and it is just so apt I had to use it. Thank you Roger 🙂

Well yesterday was the day Blue Moon decided to present us with her cria.

Blue is one smart cookie, she picked the right morning as up until about 11.30 am we had a lot of cloud cover and a bit of a breeze. ...
