Ashlea

How hot is this weather? I’m cooking but the alpacas are loving it, everywhere I look is an alpaca stretch out soaking in the sunshine. How they do it I don’t know, I’m hiding under the biggest umbrella and I’m still smoldering πŸ™‚

This morning early to beat the heat, Angelo had a second date with Truly. I’m glad we started early as forty minutes later he was still at it.

I was hoping the novelty had worn off and he was ...

Two First Timers

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 3 Comments

Yesterday at 10.55 am the latest addition to our alpaca herd arrived.

It came as a little bit of a shock as my girls never ever deliver early, even my experienced mothers tend to make me wait right to the end of their dates and so to have a first time mother deliver just five days into her dates was a surprise.

A very nice surprise, in fact it was a double surprise as not only was Sassy Surprise, that’s her name ...

Alpaca Mayhem

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 2 Comments

Another beautiful sunny day here in Wiltshire and according to the forecast it’s set to get even hotter over the weekend. Temperatures are estimated to reach 27 degree’s on Sunday and Monday.

Wow! that is hot, for the UK anyway. Don’t worry I’m not complaining, I wouldn’t dare after last summer πŸ™‚

I am just so grateful that all my alpacas are all shorn, with that kind of heat expectedΒ  they would have been really struggling if still carrying their heavy fleeces.

As ...

Imp your the Daddy!

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 2 Comments

Oh I’m so sorry but I just can’t help it, I’ve just got to share.

My skirting fairy came to call again yesterday and together we worked through some more of my fleeces πŸ™‚

I say together but that’s not quite true, I flapped about a bit oohing and ahing at all the shinny bits and she knuckled down and did all the work.

What am I like, bloody usless I know πŸ™‚ but I just couldn’t help it.

I haven’t really paid much ...

How to Exercise the Elderly

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 6 Comments

Here on our alpaca farm we take the welfare of all our helpers very seriously and so when It was brought to my attention late last week that our chief happy little helper aka my mother was a subjectΒ of elder abuse a full investigation was set in motion.

First off, whose the culprit? who on the farm would terrorize my poor mother, one of the alpacas?

No way! The alpacas are all far too placid and sweet natured, even Dora is really ...

Alpaca Additions

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 5 Comments

Well can you guess what I have to tell you today? Yep another addition to my rapidly expanding alpaca herd πŸ™‚

Today it was the turn of Perfect Harmony, aka PH, to deliver.

PH another maiden who also didn’t have a clue what was happening to her.

PH has joined the elite run round and round in circles cause there’s a head poking out of my rear end and I don’t know who or what the hell it is club.

Don’t you just love ...

Perfect!

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 7 Comments

What did I tell you? as soon as I show a complete lack of interest a female alpaca goes into labour.

Ha Ha alpaca’s you may think your smart but you’ve got to be a bit quicker of the ball to catch me out. I was still watching, my trusted binoculars just allowed me to do it from a bit further away πŸ™‚

Yesterday’s new arrival was courtesy of First Edition, a medium fawn maiden, the sire High Commissioner.

I have been a ...

Alpacas Hide & Seek

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 3 Comments

I’m real fed up now, no expectant alpaca mom’s have delivered their babies, so I’m still sporting a fetching pair of binoculars and to compound my misery I’ve also run out of Magnum’s πŸ™

Tesco’s are not delivering my shopping, which will hopefully contain my new magnum supplies, until later on this evening, what’s a girl to do? πŸ™‚

The good news is, it has cooled down a bit, maybe we will get a little rain later as the forecasters have promised.

I ...

Alpaca Breeding Plans

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 2 Comments

Do I have any alpaca births to report? nope! not a sign of a little nose protruding anywhere πŸ™

Lots and lots of false alarms, lots of wiggling, kicking alpaca tummies and alien butt face presentations as some alpaca breeders like to call it, but no births πŸ™

I know I’m bad, I get far too impatient, but I can’t seem to help myself, it’s just so dam exciting watching as each new cria enters the world.

The birth will always amaze me, ...

Tightly Packed Alpacas

Posted By On Jul 2013 | 4 Comments

It’s been four days now and still no new alpaca offspring have made an appearance. Come on girls it’s starting to feel like my binoculars are a permanent fixture on my face πŸ™

Truth be known, I’m grizzling because these binoculars are really interfering with my consumption of magnum ice creams.

I could really use another hand, one to hold my lolly, one for the binoculars and one to alter the focus and pick up all the chocolate bits that are still ...
